The Short Version
Timothy J. O’Dea, Jr. has been practicing law in Louisville for over 30 years. He focuses on Social Security Disability, probate and estate administration, family law and divorce, and personal injury. He has been handling Social Security Disability cases since 1996 and probate matters since 1995.
He is a Saint Matthews native – he grew up here, went to school here, and has watched this neighborhood grow his entire life. When he joined Batey Brophy & O’Dea at 161 St. Matthews Ave., he came home.
About Tim
Tim has spent his career helping people navigate the legal system at the moments when it matters most.
For nearly 30 years, he has guided clients through the Social Security Disability process – from initial applications through appeals before Administrative Law Judges and, when necessary, into federal court. Most SSD claims are denied the first time. Tim knows the process, knows what the Social Security Administration is looking for, and knows how to fight for benefits that people have spent their working lives earning.
For over 20 years, he has also represented clients in personal injury cases – car accidents, truck accidents, and other injury claims throughout Louisville and Jefferson County.
“I had not felt so fulfilled as an attorney until I started doing this work,” Tim says. “It is so rewarding to obtain benefits for people when they desperately need it.”
He has handled probate and estate administration for just as long. Settling an estate means dealing with legal paperwork while grieving – a combination that is genuinely hard. Tim brings patience and a strong sense of empathy to every family he guides through the process. “It has been an honor to help people go through probate and make sure inheritances are handled properly,” he says.
Tim was born in Louisville and raised right here in Saint Matthews. He went to Our Lady of Lourdes grade school and Saint Xavier High School. He remembers riding his bike from Jamestown Apartments to Seneca Park, and he still loves a chocolate glazed donut from Plehn’s Bakery.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky and his law degree from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law. He has been a member of the Kentucky Bar Association since 1992 and holds a Distinguished peer rating from Martindale-Hubbell – a recognition of high professional achievement and ethical standards awarded by fellow attorneys.
Outside the office, Tim is a proud husband and father. He enjoys pickleball, basketball, and spending time with family and friends.
